Feast of Passover

The Feast of Pesach or Passover

Y’shua is the Lamb of YaH.  Appropriating that fact today and applying the Blood of Y’shua to our lives as we celebrate the Gospel of the Kingdom of YaH in Passover we remain in the protection of YaH.

  1. As we look into the Feast of Passover we must notice that four days before the 14th of Nisan, which is the day the lambs are ceremoniously killed to protect The Lord’s people from the death angel, there is a day called the day of inspection of the lamb. There are many lambs and the priests will choose one lamb to be the ONE killed to protect all of the Israeli people of YaH. After the lamb is chosen there is a rehearsal they would do to show the lamb off and to give the shadow picture of the good things to come so that everyone understood what the Messiah would be doing when He came.

                 a. When Y’shua was alive and walking around in the flesh some 2,000 years ago, He fulfilled this rehearsal to the very day and hour! Some refer to this event as “Palm Sunday” and some know it as the “Triumphal Entry” but what He was actually doing was showing exactly who He is with regard to the Feast of Passover!  He is the Lamb of YaH!

b. Y’shua was in the home of Lazarus, Mary and Martha the night before and He had told His talmidim, (disciples) to wait for him at the Damascus gate. It was the morning of the 10th of Nisan-the day of the procession of the chosen lamb. The priests of the Temple would line up along the route of the procession and also just outside the Damascus gate (on the eastern side which is the route from the Temple) and they would have palm fronds and cedar boughs ready to shake them as they would begin to sound off the praises as they saw the priest walking with the little lamb being led on a rope.

c.  The disciples, talmidim of Y’shua were waiting just west of the Damascus Gate entry on the route from the location of Lazarus’s home.  They too were ready for the procession rehearsal of the lamb. Here comes the LORD riding a donkey which had never been ridden and as the disciples saw him approach they began to shout, “Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!” and the people who were just inside the Gate heard the news…They too began to shout Messianic praises and shake their palm fronds in excited expectation!

d. Everyone who came to celebrate the Feast of Passover from all over the Mediterranean and outlying areas was in attendance in the streets of Jerusalem that day!  The city was filled with both visitors and residents alike. The praises were a cacophony of loud, excited voices and were explosive and wildly contagious! It all happened instantly and only a moment later the priest arrives on the scene and tells The LORD to make His disciples stop praising Him. Of course this is where He gives us the fabulous line that tells us that we could have competition if we refuse to praise the Lord when we should! Let’s read it in “Luke 19:40 (KJV)
40  And he answered and said unto them,”I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”  (Note to self: NO ROCK IS GOING TO TAKE MY PLACE!)

The wonderful salvation and protection plan of YaH for His people is found as being Y’shua HaMaschiach–the center of all the Feasts and Appointed Times of YaH. As the people appropriated them through their honoring of YaH in celebrating Him in them, they became sanctified and saved and protected and given all the blessings of the works of the Appointed times as they were compliant with the Covenant.

We modern day believers have the fulfilled works of the Appointed Times and when we appropriate them in that they are fulfilled by the very ONE is really GOOD NEWS! And, Passover shows us we will be kept from the spirit of death.  Here it is:

IT IS STILL ALL ABOUT JESUS THE MESSIAH, Y’SHUA HaMASCHIACH, SON OF THE LIVING GOD–YaHoVaH!

  1. It is fitting that Passover, which is called Pesach, occurs in the early spring of the year at the time of the rebirth of creation after a long, unfruitful and dead winter season.
    1. This Feast represents the birth of Israel from enslavement which they could never have accomplished without the help of YHWH (YaHoVaH, the LORD)
    2. Egyptian Pharaoh represents Satan
      1. God’s people cannot be set free from the grip of Satan without the help of God
    3. Spiritually one must leave the world (spiritual Egypt),
      1. a place of spiritual oppression and slavery
      2. a place of darkness and false religion
      3. it is the many faceted realm or kingdom of Satan, the prince of death.
    4. The very first demand God spoke thru Moses to Pharaoh was to let His people go that they may worship Him in a Feast.
      1. 1.      Exodus 5:1-2
      2. Ex. 5:3 says that Moses explains that God’s people could be smited with pestilence or the sword if they do not honor God in His feasts…
      3. At one point, Pharaoh said he would let the men go to the wilderness to worship their God but not the women or children.  Ex. 10:8-11. God said that ALL were to go.
    5. The curses God decreed against Egypt thru Moses were all related to the gods Egypt served. He brought them down one by one in order to deliver His people so they could go out to the wilderness and celebrate a Feast with Him.
      1. During the Seder Meal we dip our finger in our wine and sprinkle it on our Seder plate and yell out the different curses.
      2. Remember that the wine represents the Blood of Y’shua which defeated Satan and all the curses associated with him.
  2. The gods of Egypt and the curse of God upon them, defeating them

A.  First Plague:  Exodus 7:19 turns the Nile to blood.  The Nile was worshipped as, “god of the river of life” or also “father of the gods” .  Anuket, goddess of the Nile River, the child of Satis and among the Elephantine triad of deities; temple on the Island of Seheil, giver of life and fertility, gazelle-headed.

B.  Second Plague:  Exodus 8:5,6  caused the frogs to come up.  This was to come against the frog-god idol of Egypt. Heget (also spelled Heqet) – goddess of childbirth and fertility, who breathed life into humans at birth, represented as a frog or a frog-headed woman

C.  Third Plague:  Exodus 8:16  -Created lice.  This overthrew the Egyptian insect-god.  Bes – dwarfed demigod – associated with protection of the household, particularly childbirth, and entertainment.

D. Fourth Plague:  Exodus 8:21-24.  Creation of flies was to show the powerlessness of the god Beelzebub, god of the flies to protect the people from the Israelite’s God.

E.  Fifth Plague:  Exodus 9:1-7.   God’s hand will smite the stock of Egypt with a very grievous murrain or pestilence.  Egyptians worshipped their livestock and this plague was to show them that God was greater and no one could stop His hand. Pharaoh and all of Egypt had to admit it was God since none of the Israelite’s cattle or livestock were harmed.

Bat – represented the cosmos and the essence of the soul (Ba), cow goddess who gave authority to the king, cult originated in Hu and persisted widely until absorbed as an aspect of Hathor after the eleventh dynasty; associated with the sistrum and the ankh .

Apis – the Apis bull probably was at first a fertility figure concerned with the propagation of grain and herds; but he became associated with Ptah, the paramount deity of the Memphis area and also, with Osiris (as User-Hapi) and Sokaris, later gods of the dead and the underworld. As Apis-Atum he was associated with the solar cult and was often represented with the sun-disk of the cow deity between his horns, being her offspring. The Apis bull often represented a king who became a deity after death, suggesting an earlier ritual in which the king was sacrificed.

Hathor (also spelled Hethert) – among the oldest of Egyptian deities – often depicted as the cow, a cow-goddess, sky-goddess and tree-goddess who was the mother to the pharaoh and earlier to the universe, the golden calf of the bible, and later goddess of love and music.  (THERE ARE MORE BUT I THINK THE POINT IS MADE HERE.)

F.  Sixth plague:  Exodus 9:8-12.  Boils on man and beast.  Only happened to the Egyptians and their cattle.  This was to prove that the Egyptian gods of healing were unable to protect them.  Isis (also spelled Aset) – goddess of magical power and healing, “She of the Throne” who was represented as the throne, also later as the wife of Osiris and as the protector of the dead

G.  Seventh Plague:  Exodus 9:22-26.  Hail and fire. It was to smite all the bountiful vegetation and livestock of the region.  This showed everyone that no one could be protected from the wrath of God.  Bast – goddess, protector of the pharaoh and a solar deity where the sun could be seen shining in her eyes at night, a lioness, house cat, cat-bodied or cat-headed woman, also known as Bastet when superseded by Sekhmet

H.  Eighth Plague:  Exodus 10:12-15.  Locusts.  They ate what was left of the vegetation.  Again, Goshen where the Israelites lived, remained untouched.  There locusts were a new species which God specifically created against Egypt in order to show He was the only creator, rewarding only those who worship Him and cursing through the very means of creation those who deny Him.

I.   Ninth Plague Exodus 10:21-23.  A darkness which could be felt.  (Similar to the      absence of God).  This overthrew the Sun god-Ra.  Ra – the sun, also a creator deity – whose chief cult centre was based in Heliopolis meaning “city of the sun” .  Ra-Horakhty – god of both sky and Sun, a combination of Ra and Horus – thought to be god of the Rising Sun

J.  Tenth Plague:  Exodus, in the 11th and 12th chapters was the death of the firstborn of all men and beasts in the land, at the hand of God Himself.  This is where the plan of redemption is foreshadowed.

1.)   the Lamb is slain and only if the Blood is applied to the doorposts of the home are the inhabitants safe from the angel of death which God sent, because the angel would “pass over” that household. Y’shua (Jesus) is the sacrificial Lamb of God who redeemed the Earth!

a. Jesus fulfilled this in His death on the cross.  He was crucified on the exact day of preparation of Pesach in which the lamb was slain.  He died at exactly 3pm which was the time decreed that the lamb should be slain for the sins of Israel, but as the fullness of the Godhead bodily, He was slain for the sins of the world. He was the suffering servant

2.  He fulfilled the role of King, (He was declared, with a sign above him, and crucified as the “King of the Jews”). Of course we as believers know that He is the King of Kings! And Lord of Lords!

3.  He also fulfilled the role of High Priest as He went through the crucifixion. First He asked for the forgiveness of sins as He said, Father forgive them for they know not what they do, and He also said, “It is finished.” which is what the High Priest declares after he kills the lamb which is sacrificed for the sins of the nation. The need for sacrifices of animals was now finished. The Levitical Priesthood is now finished and the Melchizedek Priesthood is reintroduced to humanity in its fulfilled state! (please take the time to read Hebrews –the entire book at one sitting in order to understand that the Old Covenant was changed in this way. It did not change in that we are no longer responsible for honoring the Laws of YaH.)

Additionally, it is interesting to note that the current high priest, Caiaphas was by God’s Law judged to be disqualified to be the high priest because his priestly garment was rent. If you remember when asked by the Sanhedrin if He was the Messiah the Son of God He said, “I AM”.  At that, Caiaphas screams, “Blasphemy!” and tears his garment. In Exodus 28:32 the robe of the ephod is described:  And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.

Caiaphas was not a qualified high priest anyway because he was put in his position illegally according to the Laws of the Priesthood. But the renting of his garment cinches the disqualification!

4.  And Y’shua was of course the atonement sacrifice as well…for by His works we are reconciled to YaH.

a.)  The last plague overthrew every god of Egypt because it showed without doubt that God was the sovereign King.  The giver and taker of life and the one who wanted to communicate with His creatures.  He showed His care of His own people and how they truly were communicating with HIM.

On Nissan 14 the Passover Lamb is to be slaughtered but beginning 4 days prior to that day the lambs are to be inspected to determine the perfect one to be selected for the sacrifice. It had to be without spot or blemish, a male of the 1st year.  Exodus 12:3-5

Y’shua was the lamb of God and that is why He was born in a manger.  John 1:29  ICorinthians 5:7

Let’s look at the Day of the INSPECTION with regard to Y’shua (Nissan 10)

  1. He was inspected as decreed by God, and as found in the scriptures and He fulfilled all things.  Feasts of the Lord are a shadow picture of things to come, (the Oracles of YaHoVaH) as it says in the Old Testament. We see the fulfillment of Messiah as the Lamb and see how He was inspected:
    1. Matthew 22:15-22    15Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. 16And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. 22When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
    2.    Mathew 22:23-30   23The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 27And last of all the woman died also. 28Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. 29Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
    3. Mathew 22: 41-46   41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 46And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
    4. So, we see here that the Pharisees, Saducees and an educated lawyer all tried Him to see if He was an accurate teacher/Rabbi of the Law.  SO WE SEE –the Lamb was inspected…
    5. The Feast of Unleavened Bread begins the day after the Lamb was killed and eaten.
      1. The sacrifice was slaughtered at the 9th hour, (3pm) between the evenings.
      2. Y’shua gave up the ghost at the 9th hour exactly 3pm on the day of Passover.  Mathew 27:46, 50
      3. That is also the day that the Israelites made their exodus from Egypt.
      4. The 7th day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread was the Crossing of the Red Sea.

The Passover Feast is a Memorial Forever (a remembrance) just as ALL the Feasts of the Lord Our God- YaHoVaH !!!

ICorinthians 11:24-26   24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come.

  1. The Communion table the shadow picture of what the Melchi Zedech (King of Righteousness, aka.Melchisadech) is the celebration of the fulfilled Feast of Pesach. Each Shabbat evening at sundown we would have seen the Messiah say the blessings of the Kiddush where He would bless the Father for bringing forth the fruit of the vine and the bread from the Earth.
  2. When Constantine and the “Holy Roman Empire” did all they could do to remove all things- “Jewish” from the faith they instituted Communion and held it every Sunday at their Sunrise services…
